What Industrial Flooring Work Do Concrete Floors Actually Need?

Most floors don’t just need one thing. It’s usually a mix of prep, removal and new finishes depending on what shape the concrete is in.

Industrial flooring services across Meath and the north-east

You’ll walk into a unit and straight away see what’s been done over the years. Patched concrete from old repairs. Forklift turning points worn smooth. Expansion joints starting to break away. Old epoxy flaking near shutter doors.

In some spots the slab might even be from a different pour — sitting slightly off from the rest. Some areas are fine. Others clearly aren’t.

That’s the kind of work we deal with across Meath, Louth, Cavan and Monaghan — floors that have been used, patched, coated and reworked over time.

Concrete floor repairs and surface issues

You don’t get one clean issue.

It’s a mix across the floor:

  • coatings worn through in traffic lanes
  • rough patches where repairs were done
  • adhesive left from older flooring
  • smooth sections where tyres have polished the surface
  • dusting concrete in corners or low-use areas
  • joints or edges starting to break up

And the worst part is it’s rarely consistent. One area behaves completely differently to the next.

Floor preparation, shot blasting and grinding

Before anything goes back on, the floor has to be brought into line. That might mean proper floor preparation, or using shot blasting to take the surface back and open it up again.

Heavier spots — thick coatings, uneven repairs — usually need floor grinding first to level things out.

A lot of floors need a bit of both.

Skip that part and you’re just laying over whatever’s already failing underneath.

Adhesive removal and floor coating removal

Older floors tend to have a bit of everything left behind.

Glue from old tiles, layers of paint, epoxy stuck in patches.

That’s where adhesive removal and floor coating removal come into it.

You start clearing it and realise how many times it’s been redone instead of properly stripped back.

Leave that behind and you’re building on a weak base again.

Industrial floor painting and resin flooring

Once the prep and removal work is done, it comes down to what the space actually needs. In a lot of units, that means floor painting or resin flooring that can take traffic and be cleaned without hassle. In busier areas, line marking makes a difference straight away, especially where forklifts and foot traffic are mixing.

Other spaces need a different finish altogether. PVC flooring works well in lighter-use areas, while ceramic tiles suit places dealing with water, grease and constant cleaning.

Outside of units, we also deal with surfaces like tennis court resurfacing, where wear comes from use and weather rather than heavy traffic.

Why industrial flooring work is usually more than one job

Trying to fix a floor with one step rarely works.

You might sort one issue and leave another sitting there. That’s where things start failing again.

Getting it right usually means working through it properly — prep, removal, then whatever finish suits the space.

Trying to skip steps or do it in the wrong order usually shows up later.

Getting the work done on active sites

Most of this work happens while places are still running.

That means moving stock around, working section by section, reopening traffic lanes as areas are finished. Grinding indoors is noisy enough. Blasting has extraction hoses running across the floor. In tighter units, it can be awkward just getting machines into position. Edges always take longer. Busy areas usually need a few passes.

It takes as long as it takes to get it right.
